Kato Zakros Palace apartments
The owners George and Haroula Platanakis take great pleasure in informing you that they have built a small family tourist complex in Kato Zakros. The complex is located at the top of a hill offering a panoramic view onto the plain, the Minoan Palace, the village and the beautiful beach of Kato Zakros. Our hillside location means that there is always a cooling breeze.
All the studios are single-spaced and have an area of 26 square meters and entertain two – three persons. Three studios have one double bed and one studio has two single beds.
All the studios have internal toilets, shower, and one armchair which becomes, if you like, a bed for a third person. Also they all have a small seating place, an oven for preparing food and a kitchen table. The studios also contains full kitchen tools, waterboiler, toaster, coffeemaker and also a small refrigerator.

Kato Zakros is an ideal location for a quiet break from modern life and Kato Zakros Palace Apartments are the perfect place from which to enjoy it. It is easy to eat all meals in the local tavernas so we found no need for anything other than a place to sleep. The accommodation is comfortable, clean and provides everything you could need. The owner, George, and his wife are resident on site and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. We have no hesitation in recommending the Kato Zakros Palace to anyone wanting an idyllic chill-out.

Couldn’t be better. The Palace apartments are clean, modern and George has thought of everything. The view from all the apartments is fantastic, over to the bay, with the minoan palace and gorge. Take a car to the top of the gorge, walk down (2 hours) have a drink at the taverna and ask the owner to arrange a taxi or George will ferry you back for your car. In the minoan palace ruins are terrapins, a native species. The bay has 5 tavernas in high season, 3 open in October when we were there. This is a peaceful place, no shops, no entertainment, so take a book and games. We hope to go back.

Once again visiting Kato Zakros
We planned to stay 2 or 3 days – we stayed 2 weeks and we really enjoyed the atmosphere: A nice room with every comfort , a wonderful view from the terrasse, and last not but least friendly hours with George, Charoula and the mystery of Kato Zakros. We surely come back to Kato Zakros Palace! We have visite this place at first in the year 1974 and every year untill 1984, nothing have changed after 28 years! Nearly nothing? In those times there was no electricity, but one telefoneconnection to Zakros from the Kafenion “Anesis”of Kostas and Maria Spetsotakis. At that times Kato Zakros had the most beautifull “stares haven” ” in the world” at night, but now ist gone, because the lillumination of the streetlaterns are too strong, to see the millions of stars.
Un merveilleux séjour
Un emplacement idéal, un peu en retrait du petit village et sur une hauteur qui domine le site minoen et la plage. Les studios sont bien équipés et d’une propreté remarquable, avec une vaste terrasse ombragée. Les soins attentifs et l’accueil très chaleureux de Georges et Haroula ne peuvent que donner envie de revenir.

Erholung pur, traumhafte Lage!
Die Kato-Zakros-Palace Apartments liegen traumhaft oberhalb der Bucht von Kato Zakros. Die Eigentümer Giorgos und Charoula sind sehr nett und kümmern sich rührend um ihre Gäste. Die Umgebung lädt zu Wanderungen ein, man kann aber auch in wunderschönen, einsamen Badebuchten den Tag verbringen.
Am Strand von Kato Zakros gibt es vier Tavernen, in denen man mit Blick auf das Meer lecker essen kann. Nicht zu vergessen der minoische Palast, der von der Terrasse der Apartments wunderbar zu sehen ist. Kurz und gut: nette Leute, Erholung pur und schöne Apartments, die keine Wünsche offen lassen.

Passo le mie vacanze in Grecia dagli anni ’80, e Kato Zakros è uno dei posti che preferisco.
Kato Zakros Palace Apartments è situato in una posizione stupenda, è tranquillissimo, le stanze sono ben costruite e pulitissime, e George e Charoula sono estremamente ospitali. Inoltre questa località di Creta est è vicina molte spiagge meravigliose e poco affollate anche in agosto. Inoltre, sia a Kato Zakros, che nei vicini villaggi di Xerocambos e Zakros, ci sono delle taverne dove mangiare le verer specialità della cucina cretese e greca, prive di qualsiasi influsso di modernizzazione.
Extremely quiet and relaxing week
If you’re tired of crowded tourist ghettos – this is the place! Definitely NO PLACE for party animals or fans of swimming pools! Bring your swimwear, backgammon game, sudoku and books. You will be taken care of by the extremely nice owners; Giorgos (George) and his wife. And that’s about it! Nothing will happen really – and that’s the point. Rest, stare at the horizon, sleep, listen to the silence. Enjoy greek food and retsina at the tavernas where the road to Kato Zakros ends at the beach. This is a very remote part of Crete. And therefore unique. If you read this far without giving up – you will love it!

Der Zauber Kretas
Nach mehreren Ferienaufenthalten geniesse ich nun für einige Wochen die Gastfreundschaft von George und Charoula. Im Vergleich zum Sommer sind die Wintermonate ruhig und beschaulich, nur wenige Touristen finden den Weg nach Kato Zakros. Dennoch kommt keine Langeweile auf, die Wandermöglichkeiten sind beinahe unbegrenzt (ein Auto ist jedoch zu empfehlen) und die spektakuläre Landschaft lädt dank der milden Temperaturen zum verweilen ein.
Die Leute sind genauso herzlich und gastfreundlich wie in den Sommermonaten und es fehlt an nichts. Die Zimmer sind beheizbar und es steht eine Waschmaschine zur Verfügung. Die Kitchenette ist gut ausgestattet und für ausreichend Warmwasser ist gesorgt. Von George und Charoula wird man mit der gewohnt freundlichen und persönlichen Aufmerksamkeit umsorgt, ein „Rundum-Wohlfühl-Paket“!
Meine Wege werden mich auch zukünftig immer wieder nach Kreta ins Kato Zakras Palace Apartments führen. Auf diesem Weg ein ganz herzliches Dankeschön an George und Charoula, Ihr seid wunderbare Gastgeber!
We had three wonderful nights at Kato Zakros Palace in June 2010. George and his wife run a terrific establishment: sparkling clean and superbly maintained with beautiful views in every directin, from the balconies across to the beach and bay to their own oasis of flowers and vegetable garden.

Very Nice
These apts are actually called Kato Zakros Palace Apts and are situated on the hill leading down to the village. They are just off the road and well signposted. It is a 5 min walk to the village.The views are excellent and the Apts both very clean and well equipped. I understand George also has 4 rooms as well as the 4 Apts.
He is very helpful.
Kato Zakros is very small with 3 tavernas and a bit of beach.
The roads around are now very good. If you want to explore that area of Crete I can recommend staying here.
