Our Location

Livari Beach

Some parts of the island have been overpowered by tourist resorts and massive hotels, but fortunately Crete does still allow you to exploreendless beaches, numerous villages, remote mountains and some natural sights as caves and gorges for those who take pains to avoid the ‘madding crowds’.

Livari is a comletely hidden and unknown area between Goudouras (7 km far) and Xerokambos (12 km far from Ziros village), with a gorge and 2 small beaches (120m the first to south beach  and 250 m long the north beach with the name ‘Vlichada’). The place has a uniquebeauty totaly far away from any tourist or organized activity! The visitor will enjoy to hike arround. The nature endowed this area with a rare wild beauty, bare rocks and mountains full of herbs and spices.

Livari is a quiet and nice beach with pebbles but it consists mainly of coarse sand. You look out over the Atherinolakos power station and the island of Koufonisi that lies in front of the coast. There are some trees on the beach and there is a cottage so you can find a place in the shade if you want to.

A wild canyon is situated 2km away west from the beach area with about 1 -1,5 km length but there is no way to cross the gorge and we recommendnot to try due to its difficulty. The best time to visit Livari is winter and spring (October to May).

Suitable for quietness, isolation and trekking

You can get here from Goudouras by taking the road that leads to the power station of Atherinolakkos. After 4km and just few meters before the power station you will meet a junction where the right road takes you into the factory and the local fishing lodge. Do not follow this track, but continue driving straight (north) to the mountain village Agia Triada for another 1km until you meet a second smaller junction (on the right hand) that leads to the beach of Livari. The road is initially paved but later turns to a passable dirt track.
