Our Location

Adravasti Gorge

It is the most unknown gorge of Palekastro – Zakros region. Its exit is just 1 km north from Adravasti village or 3 kms away from Zakros.

There are two ways to cross it. The one is from Karidi village and the other one is from Vrisidi or Magassa settlement. The quickest way to reach Karidi village is a new asphalt road that starts from Adravasti village (8 km).

At the beginning the mountains create various basins, which slowly turn out to be a wonderful, but really rough gorge. There is not a path and you need to be very careful. At the same time you need to be in a very good physical condition to attempt it. You can pass it only by walking through the basin of the gorge.

There is not a footpath – difficult passage!

The gorge is not very deep. Nervertheless it is offered for marvelous pictures in combination with the deep blue of the sky

Enjoy marvelous rock formation under absolute quietness in middle of the wild landscape

Though the gorge is completely unknown, you will meet impressive pictures when you get to know of it

At the beginning of the gorge you will see wide areas with odd sharp stones spangled around

In the broader region of Karidi Village more than 170 caves have been recorded to date, with a total of more than 10 kilometers of charted tunnels. This unique speleological park is a real paradise for speleologists, biospeleologists and other researchers of the subterranean world. Speleogocial teams from Greece, France and other countries have been active in the area since 1997 and have turned Karidi into a center for research and study of caves and other karst geoforms.
